Through my past 5 years of young women's I have learned and experienced many things, things that have shaped me and continue to shape me into the women I have become, and will become. I've learned the importance of studying your scriptures, serving others, and practicing skills that I would and will use in my future life and family. I look out at all the young women here and see the beautiful potential that you all have. You all have so much power within you that will only grow stronger. Through my years of completing tasks of personal progress, little by little. I have learned that I have power within me too, little by little. Faith, divine nature, individual worth, knowledge, choice and accountability, good works, integrity, virtue are only SOME of the divine attributes you will learn to acquire as you complete your personal progress.
In a talk By Elder John C. Pingree Jr. Of the Seventy called “I have a work for thee” he says “The Lord has more in mind for you than you have in mind for yourself! You have been reserved and preserved for this time and place. …
“The Lord needs you to change the world. As you accept and follow His will for you, you will find yourself accomplishing the impossible!” growing into righteous young women in the world we live in now can be difficult and sometimes impossible. Or at least it may seem. You may feel pressured to do what your friends are doing, and you even make excuses for the actions taking place. You may not see the big deal in heading the prophet's words of modest dress or language. But as your friend, I can assure you the blessings you will receive from following the prophet with not only be great, but eternal.
It's the same for personal progress, we push it aside due to things you deem “ more important”. And maybe it's true, you'll live if you don't complete personal progress. You'll live. Just like you'll live without going to church, you'll live without saying your prayers, reading your scriptures, serving others etc. there are many spiritually benefiting things that you COULD live without. But what kind of life would that be... ? But what about after this life? What about the eternity we have after this life? You won't have that same spirit with you that you would acquire doing all of those things I just listed. You wouldn't have the spirit you would acquire from completing personal progress. I stand before you as a spiritually uplifted daughter of God, having completed my personal progress, I can tell you that there are things you will learn for yourself that you may not learn anywhere else.
I used to not know what i believed, or if i believed in anything at all. I first started personal progress just to get it over with. But as i completed each project little by little i forced ,myself into spiritual strengthening and testimony building activities. I didn't know it was happening at first but even i couldn't deny the spirit that surrounded me as I participated in personal progress. I wish I had started with a more willing heart tp allow the blessing to multiply tremendously. But as I grew to love and even enjoy it, I felt my life become easier, better, and found myself becoming more christlike. You're not only learning to obtain attributes such as faith and knowledge but create good habits of service, scripture study, and more.
I'd like to bear my testimony that the women of today especially, need something like personal progress. With all the crazy things going on. They need something for them. Something to help build their testimony and help them acquire a desire to serve others and participate in church activities. Heavenly father loves every single one f his precious daughters. He loves each and every single one of you. There is a divine work for us to do. I Know that joseph smith was a prophet of God and that we have prophets today to help guide us.I know that because of jesus christ we can be with our families for all of eternity.
I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
